Cruising – Part One

Well after a few days of limited internet connection we’re up and running. I am writing this somewhere between Malaga and Grand Canaria, bobbing along on the beautiful briny sea! Mr T and myself are on our first holiday for about ten years, a retirement present of sorts. H retired at the end of August a few days before his sixty-fifth birthday and we thought it was time we had a bit of relaxation.

We’d been thinking about trying a cruise; a small one. We told our friends, who are endlessly on one trip or another and before we knew it we found ourselves booking a bargain deal – a seventeen days cruise from Savona in Italy ending in the Dominican Republic with two days in a hotel. Some small taster trip!

Our first stop was Marseille, a lovely city, and it was already getting ready for the festive season with Christmas markets on almost every other street corner. We had a lovely day wandering around with our friends David and Maggie.

Next was Malaga. Another beautiful city, though when we started our wander about I think we set off in the wrong direction as we found some very “odd” establishments. Once we got back to the cathedral however we found some really welcoming shops and restaurants and H and I ended up having a very good snack sitting outside a small bar called Carmen’s. Calamari, battered prawns and potatas bravas with a couple of glasses of vino – bliss.

Yesterday was a day at sea and we will be arriving in Grand Canaria at about 2pm. Internet connection permitting I will post some more about our “adventures” at sea over the next couple of days.
